Admissions Requirements: APK Graduate Programs
SPRING: September 15 of previous calendar year — classes begin in January.
SUMMER: February 20 of current calendar year — classes begin in May.
FALL: June 1 of current calendar year — classes begin in August
Note: These deadlines are administrative milestone dates for finalizing the application process for each term — we have a rolling admissions process. Your application may still be considered for review depending on the number of applicants received for the semester.
For students who wish to be eligible for University Fellowships, all application materials should be submitted by the first weeks of January. This is the most prestigious funding opportunity and requires a faculty sponsor, so coordinate with him or her to complete the necessary paperwork.
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA for the final 60 semester hours of undergraduate study and at least a 150/450 verbal score and 146/550 quantitative score on the GRE. Students from non-English speaking countries are required to present a minimum score of 550 (213 computer-based, 79 Internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language in addition to the GRE requirements. Three letters of recommendation from persons able to evaluate the applicant’s aptitude for graduate work, and a personal letter of intent must be submitted with the formal application.
For Ph.D. applicants, during the application process, please look through the research interests of individual faculty members and directly contact those who you would be interested in working with. An individual faculty MUST accept Ph.D. applicants or thesis M.S. students into their laboratory prior to admission. For non-thesis M.S. students, applicants are admitted based on the competitiveness of their applications and they do not need a specific laboratory or faculty sponsor.
For Conditional Admission Consideration
A student must meet at least ONE of the following minimum admissions requirements:
- GRE — 150/450 Verbal Score
- GRE — 146/550 Quantitative Score
- GPA — Minimum 3.0 Upper Division Undergraduate Course Work Grade Point Average
Departmental policy requires that a student take the GRE at least twice to be considered for conditional admission. The application is first approved by the specialization committee, and then submitted to the conditional committee. The number of conditional admits cannot exceed 10% of the department’s graduate enrollment.
Admission to the program and Ph.D. financial aid opportunities will be based upon the following criteria:
- GRE score, undergraduate grade point average, TOEFL score (for students from non-English speaking countries).
- Three letters of recommendation.
- The student’s letter of intent.
- Compatibility of applicant’s education, experience and research interest with the mission of the program.
- Compatibility of the applicant’s background and interests with those of an available advisor.
- Teaching, research and other departmental needs in cases where departmental financial support is requested.
NOTE:The program provides a substantial financial aid package for all competitive Ph.D. students enrolled via University Fellowships, teaching assistantships or research assistantships. For 12-month support, students should expect greater than $21,000 in living expenses and full tuition support.

APK Department Application Requirements
Application must include:
- Completed APK graduate profile sheet. E-mail completed form as an attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Completed UF Graduate Admissions online application form.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 for all upper division undergraduate work
- Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities previously attended. Mail originals to Graduate Admissions 201 Criser Hall PO Box 114000, Gainesville FL 32611-400. E-mail copies as attachments to email@example.com.
- Official GRE scores. Have the testing facility send official originals to institutional code for UF #5812. E-mail copies as attachments to firstname.lastname@example.org. (This could be a snip or screenshot of your scores from the GRE website.)
- Students from non-English speaking countries: a minimum TOEFL score of 550: 213 computer based, 79 Internet-based.
- A letter of intent explaining the student’s career goals, areas of research interest and reasons for selection of the College of Health and Human Performance for graduate study. This letter will be uploaded into your UF Online Grad Application, and you can copy it into the APK graduate profile sheet (You’ll only need to write one letter of intent).
- Three letters of recommendation and accompanying evaluation recommendation form. The department prefers that at least one recommendation be completed by a faculty member at your last institution. Have your letter writers e-mail copies of your recommendation letters and evaluation forms as attachments directly to the APK Department Graduate Coordinator @ email@example.com.

Once an applicant’s file is received, it is submitted for review by the specialization committee indicated on the application graduate profile sheet. To be accepted, the majority of the specialization committee must approve the application, AND at least one member must be available to act as an advisor. For Ph.D. applicants, a graduate faculty member who has been approved for doctoral directive status must be willing to act as the advisor or co-advisor.
